Common questions

Is a method statement the same as a risk assessment?

No. The risk assessment identifies hazards; the method statement sets out the safe way of working. They're usually submitted together as RAMS.

How long should it be?

Long enough that someone new to the job could follow it safely — usually one to three pages.
